About

Matteo Berrettini was born on April 12, 1996, in Rome, Italy. He commenced his junior tennis career in May 2011, securing six singles titles and achieving a career-high junior ranking of world No. 52. Berrettini transitioned to professional tennis in 2015, winning two singles titles on the ITF World Tennis Tour and three on the ATP Challenger Tour. His debut in an ATP main draw occurred at the Italian Open in 2017. Berrettini’s breakthrough came in 2018 when he secured his inaugural ATP singles title at the Swiss Open Gstaad, alongside his first ATP doubles title at the same event. This achievement propelled him into the top 60 of the ATP rankings.

In 2019, Berrettini continued his ascent, claiming two additional singles titles at the Hungarian Open and the Stuttgart Open. He also advanced to his first Grand Slam semifinal at the US Open, concluding the year ranked within the top 10. A significant milestone in his career was reaching his first Masters 1000 final at the Madrid Open in 2021. This was followed by winning his first ATP 500 title at the Queen’s Club Championships and becoming the first Italian male player to compete in a Wimbledon singles final. Berrettini achieved a career-high singles ranking of world No. 6 in January 2022. He has secured ten ATP Tour singles titles and two doubles titles. He contributed to the Italy Davis Cup team’s victory in 2024, maintaining an undefeated record.

Through 2023 and 2024, Berrettini faced periods of injury and withdrawal from several tournaments, including the Australian Open, French Open, and Miami Open. Despite these challenges, he made a notable comeback in 2024. During his return, he won his fourth clay title at the Grand Prix Hassan II and subsequently secured successive titles at the Swiss Open Gstaad and the Generali Open Kitzbühel. These performances led to his return to the top 100 rankings in April 2024 and underscored his resilience and continued competitive presence in professional tennis.
