The Australian football star Matt McKay undoubtedly deserves the legendary status he is renowned for. As a highly skilled athlete, McKay has delighted fans across the world with his technical ability, his sense of solidarity to his teammates and his persistent drive to fulfill his true potential. Initially, McKay came to worldwide prominence with his stint at the Brisbane Roar in his native Australia. Once a seemingly lackluster team, under McKay’s captaincy the side were able to win their first ever A-League cup. The success at Brisbane Roar helped cement McKay’s reputation as a top-league footballer as well as establishing the young football star as an iconic fan favourite. During this time, McKay also led the Australian team to numerous successes. In 2011 the national team came second in the AFC Asian Cup. Undeterred, McKay led Australia to a 2014 World Cup title and to be winners of the AFC Asian Cup in 2015.
Following his immense achievements in Australia, McKay decided to leave the warm climates of Australia for the blustery winds of Scotland. Moving to play for Rangers FC, McKay proved that his talents as a central midfield knew no international boundaries. Finding success on the pitch came easily to McKay once again. He then went on to play for the Asian teams Busan IPark and Changchun Yatai before his retirement in July 2019 – much to the dismay of fans. Although you won’t be able to catch McKay on the professional pitch any time soon, he remains a beloved player for fans across the globe.
