About

Mauricio Ochmann was born on November 16, 1977, in Washington, D.C. From an early age, he developed an interest in the arts, actively participating in local theater groups. At 16, he committed to pursuing acting professionally, leading him to move to Mexico City, where he secured his first television role in “The Other Thing” alongside Héctor Suárez. Following this, Ochmann relocated to Los Angeles to further his acting education at the Joanne Baron Acting Studio. To support his studies, he worked as a waiter while seeking representation. His perseverance led to his debut film role in “Message in a Bottle” (1999), where he acted alongside Kevin Costner, Paul Newman, and Robin Wright. He also appeared in the CBS television series “That’s Life” from 2000 to 2002.

Ochmann’s career advanced significantly with his roles in Spanish-language television. He gained widespread recognition for his starring performances in “El Chema” and “El Señor de los Cielos.” “El Chema” became the highest-rated TV show in Telemundo’s history, frequently achieving top viewership among 18-34 year olds in the U.S., regardless of language. His other notable Telemundo series include “Victoria,” “Victorinos,” and the lead role in “El Clon.” On the cinematic front, Ochmann starred in “A la Mala” (2015), a romantic comedy that was Mexico’s highest-grossing film of that year, distributed by Pantelion/Lionsgate. He also featured in the “Controlada” episode of Netflix’s “Easy,” directed by Joe Swanberg.

Demonstrating his versatility and entrepreneurial spirit, Ochmann co-owns A Toda Madre Entertainment, a television and film production company based in Los Angeles, with his former wife, actress Aislinn Derbez. This company has acquired film rights to “The Toltec Art of Life and Death” by Don Miguel Ruiz. Ochmann starred in and executive produced “Hazlo Como Hombre” (2017), which was the highest-grossing Mexican film of 2017, also released by Pantelion/Lionsgate. He continued this success by starring in and executive producing “Ya Veremos” (2018), another Pantelion/Lionsgate release that became Mexico’s highest-grossing film of 2018. His recent projects include a directorial debut with the short film “Díaz” (2019) and a multiyear first-look deal with Pantaya.
