Mehcad Brooks

Mehcad Brooks earned a SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series in 2006 for his work as Matthew Applewhite on ABC’s ‘Desperate Housewives,’ a main cast role he originated in 2005. His compelling portrayal also garnered an NAACP Image Award nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series in 2006. Prior to his breakthrough, Brooks established international recognition through his early work as a Calvin Klein underwear model, which led to a celebrity endorsement deal with the brand. Brooks continued to build his acting career with diverse roles across various platforms.

From 2008 to 2010, he co-starred in the critically acclaimed HBO series ‘True Blood’ as Benedict ‘Eggs’ Talley. He then secured a lead role as football player Terrence ‘TK’ King in USA’s drama series ‘Necessary Roughness,’ appearing from 2011 to 2013. During this period, his film credits included ‘Glory Road’ (2006) and ‘In the Valley of Elah’ (2007), showcasing his versatility on the big screen. A fan favorite, Brooks joined the main cast of The CW’s DC Comic series ‘Supergirl’ as James ‘The Guardian’ Olsen, a role he maintained for five seasons from 2015 to 2021.

His film work continued with ‘Nobody’s Fool’ (2018) and Netflix’s ‘A Fall From Grace’ (2020), which emerged as one of the platform’s most-watched thrillers. Demonstrating his passion for music, Brooks released his debut single ‘Tears Away’ in 2017, followed by his full-length debut album ‘May 20th’ in 2018. In 2021, Brooks starred as Jackson ‘Jax’ Briggs in Warner Bros.’ highly anticipated ‘Mortal Kombat’ film, based on the iconic video game series. Most recently, he joined the cast of NBC’s acclaimed procedural drama ‘Law & Order’ as Detective Jalen Shaw, a role he commenced in 2022 and continues through 2025, solidifying his presence in prime-time television.
