Born on November 7, 1995, in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, Michael Dameski began his dance career at a young age. At six years old, he entered his first dance competition, “The 2001 Australian Dance Idol” program, placing in the top ten without formal training. He then trained at Glenda Yee School of Dance and later at Brent Street Studios. His early talent led him to represent Australia at the World Championships of Performing Arts in Los Angeles, where he earned gold in every category and was named overall Junior World Dancer. In 2013, he secured the Australian Dancer of the Year title at the Showcase Australian Dance Championships, followed by winning the U.S. dance title Rainbow Dance in Las Vegas. Dameski also performed as a guest at the Zlatno Slavejce (Golden Nightingale) children’s singing festival in Macedonia, where he recorded a song titled ‘One Dance’.
Dameski’s career advanced significantly when he joined the cast of “Billy Elliot the Musical.” In October 2008, he became one of the five “Billys” for the Sydney production, and his final Australian performance was on June 13, 2009, in Melbourne. He then transition to the Broadway production of “Billy Elliot the Musical” in December 2009, performing until September 2010. Following his Broadway tenure, he joined the 2nd North American Tour of “Billy Elliot the Musical,” with his last performance as Billy on January 29, 2011. His work in the musical earned him a Green Room Award in 2008 and an Australian Dance Award in 2009.
Post-“Billy Elliot,” Dameski continued to gain prominence in the dance world. In 2012, he appeared as a guest competitor on “Young Talent Time.” A significant turning point occurred in February 2014 when he competed on “So You Think You Can Dance Australia,” ultimately winning first place and earning the title of Australia’s Favourite Dancer for 2014. He became an original cast member of the Dream Dance Company, founded by Marko Panzic. Dameski also toured with the first national tour of “Newsies” as Tommy boy and a Citizen of New York and appeared in the “Newsies” Broadway Recording. In 2018, he competed in the second season of NBC’s “World of Dance,” finishing as the runner-up and choreographing all his routines. His television appearances also include “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.” More recently, in February 2025, Dameski was featured as the male lead in Lady Gaga’s music video for “Abracadabra.” He has also danced for artists such as Bebe Rexha, Sabrina Carpenter, and Paula Abdul, and performed in the Savage X Fenty Show.
