World-renowned British makeup artist Diane Kendal is synonymous with some of the world’s leading beauty brands, including Marc Jacobs (for whom she is a product consultant) and Calvin Klein (for whom she has developed products). Her work is regularly featured in various international editions of Vogue as well as magazines such as i-D, Interview, and Harper’s Bazaar. She has worked with the likes of Dolce & Gabbana, YSL, Roberto Cavalli, Carolina Herrera, and many more on both advertising campaigns and runway looks. Currently living in the affluent Carroll Gardens area of Brooklyn, she has established herself on both sides of the Atlantic as one of the world’s leading beauty and skincare experts.
Kendal studied makeup at the London College of Fashion, initially hoping for a career in film makeup. However, she ultimately moved into the fashion industry, working with up-and-coming fashion photographers she’d met at college. After becoming part of the London fashion scene in the late 1980s and early 1990s, she relocated to New York and became a key player in the post-supermodel grunge movement that swept through the fashion industry in the mid-Nineties.
Soon, Kendal was being asked to help Calvin Klein develop a line of beauty products and to style Vogue front covers. Her passion for makeup and her commitment to inclusivity and diversity in the fashion and beauty industry continue to inform her work, ensuring that, more than 40 years into her career, she remains one of the most respected and in-demand makeup artists and consultants currently working.
