About

Brian David Griese, born on March 18, 1975, in Miami, Florida, established a notable career in Football as both a player and a coach. He attended Christopher Columbus High School in Miami, where he participated in football, basketball, and golf. Following high school, Griese played college football at the University of Michigan from 1993 to 1997. Initially a walk-on, he earned the starting quarterback position and led the Wolverines to an undefeated season and a shared national championship in 1997, culminating in an MVP performance at the 1998 Rose Bowl. In his college career, Griese had a 17–5 record as a starter and was inducted into the Rose Bowl Hall of Fame in 2012.

Griese was drafted by the Denver Broncos in the third round of the 1998 NFL draft. He secured a Super Bowl ring in his rookie season as a backup to John Elway. After Elway’s retirement in 1999, Griese became the Broncos’ starting quarterback, earning a Pro Bowl selection in 2000. Throughout his NFL career, which spanned 12 seasons, he also played for the Miami Dolphins, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Chicago Bears. Known for his high completion percentage, Griese had four seasons with a completion rate over 64%, including 69.3% in 2004. He retired from playing in 2009.

Following his playing career, Griese transitioned into broadcasting, working as an analyst for ESPN’s college football coverage from 2009 to 2020 and as a color commentator for Monday Night Football from 2020 to 2022. In 2022, he moved into coaching, becoming the quarterbacks coach for the San Francisco 49ers. Beyond his professional achievements, Griese is actively involved in philanthropy. He founded Judi’s House, a grief support center for children in Denver, Colorado, inspired by the personal experience of losing his mother at a young age. He has been recognized for his humanitarian efforts, receiving the 2011 Patterson Award for Excellence in Sports Philanthropy and the Big Ten’s Dungy-Thompson Humanitarian Award and Ford-Kinnick Leadership Award.
