Michael Dorman

Michael Dorman was born in Auckland, New New Zealand, on April 26, 1981. He spent his early childhood in Auckland before moving to Bundaberg, Queensland, Australia, at the age of ten. He attended Bundaberg State High School and later pursued a degree in drama at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) in Brisbane. His career began in 2002 when he landed the role of Christian in “The Secret Life of Us,” a part he secured after moving to Sydney following his university studies. This early role marked the beginning of a consistent acting career in both Australian and international productions.

Dorman gained recognition for his leading role as John Tavner in the comedy-drama series “Patriot” (2015–2018) and as NASA astronaut Gordo Stevens in the Apple TV+ science fiction series “For All Mankind” (2019–2021). These roles showcased his ability to portray complex characters in different genres. His work extends to films such as the 2020 horror film “The Invisible Man,” where he played Tom Griffin, and supporting roles in movies like “West” (2007) and “Daybreakers” (2009). His career has demonstrated a steady progression, including a significant turning point when Russell Crowe assisted him in moving to the United States to further his acting career.

In recent years, Dorman has continued to take on prominent roles, including the title character in the “Joe Pickett” television series (2021–2023), based on C.J. Box’s books. He also appeared as Gold Roger in the 2023 Netflix series “One Piece” and as Graham Lawson in the 2024 Netflix Australian series “Territory,” for which he was nominated for a Silver Logie for Best Lead Actor in a Drama. Beyond acting, Dorman is also a musician, having performed live at various festivals and supported other artists.
