Michael Kay

Michael Kay, an Emmy Award-winning broadcaster, made a groundbreaking transition in 1992, becoming the first newspaper reporter in any sport to move full-time into a broadcast booth. After beginning his professional journey in 1982 as a general assignment writer for the New York Post, Kay quickly shifted to sports-specific reporting, covering college basketball, the NBA, and the New Jersey Nets. In 1987, he was named the Yankees beat reporter for the Post, continuing this role after moving to the New York Daily News in 1989, where he also took on reporting duties for the MSG Network. His pivotal move to radio in 1992 saw him partner with John Sterling as the radio announcer for the New York Yankees on WABC, a role where he broadcasted the team’s four World Series championships over ten years.

Association (2018), the Vin Scully Award for Excellence in Sports Broadcasting from WFUV Radio (2018), and the Italian American Baseball Federation Media Award (2022). In 2023, he was honored as a National Honoree by the Stamford (Ct.) Old Timers Athletic Association. Looking ahead, Kay launched a new solo eponymous show on ESPN Radio in 2025, while continuing his role as the lead play-by-play announcer for the YES Network.
