Michal Krčmář was born on January 23, 1991, in Vrchlabí, Czechoslovakia. Following in his father Daniel’s footsteps, who represented Slovakia in biathlon at the 1994 Winter Olympics, Michal began his biathlon career. He first gained international recognition as part of the junior men’s relay team that secured a silver medal at the Biathlon Junior World Championships in 2012. This achievement marked his transition into senior competitions and laid the groundwork for his future success. Since the 2013–14 season, Krčmář has been a regular presence on the Biathlon World Cup circuit, accumulating over 300 World Cup starts across numerous events.
Throughout his career, Krčmář has consistently competed at the highest levels of biathlon. He has participated in three Olympic Games (2014, 2018, 2022) and ten World Championships. A significant milestone in his career came at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, where he earned a silver medal in the 10 km sprint. This was followed by a bronze medal in the mixed relay at the 2020 Biathlon World Championships in Antholz. His strong performances continued into the 2022-23 season, where he achieved his best overall World Cup ranking, finishing 13th, along with top-10 placements in individual, sprint, and mass start standings. His personal best include a 5th place in the sprint in Pokljuka and an 8th place in the individual event in Ruhpolding.
The 2023-24 season saw Krčmář continue to demonstrate his resilience and skill, overcoming a viral infection in August 2023 that briefly interrupted his training. Despite this challenge, he secured an 8th place finish in the mass start in Lenzerheide. He also played a crucial role in securing a silver medal for the Czech Mixed Relay team at the Biathlon World Championships 2025, where he made a critical overtake on the final lap. Beyond his individual achievements, Krčmář is a dedicated team player, contributing to the Czech team’s success, including a 6th place finish in the Nations Cup during the 2022-23 season, their best since 2015-16.
