Michel Mulder

Michel Mulder was born on February 27, 1986, in Zwolle, Netherlands. His early athletic endeavors began on the football field as a goalkeeper, but he soon transitioned to speed skating, following his brothers onto the ice at the age of seven. His prowess extended to both ice and inline skating, where he quickly established himself as a prominent figure.

The pinnacle of Mulder’s career arrived at the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics, where he secured a gold medal in the 500m speed skating event and a bronze medal in the 1000m. Prior to this, he earned two World Sprint Champion titles in 2013 and 2014. He also achieved silver medals at the World Single Distance Championships in the 500m event in 2012 and 2015. Beyond ice, Mulder was a World Champion in inline skating, winning the 500m in 2012 and the team relay in 2014, in addition to three bronze medals at other World Championships.

After a distinguished competitive career, Mulder transitioned from active competition to a coaching role. In 2023, he joined Team Novus as a performance coach, imparting his knowledge and expertise to developing athletes. His retirement from competitive speed skating occurred after failing to qualify for the 2018 Olympics, despite being the defending champion in the 500m. In 2024, he also demonstrated other talents by winning the first season of the television show “Stars on Stage.”
