Michael Nelson “Mike” Trout was born on August 7, 1991, in Vineland, New Jersey, and grew up in nearby Millville. He played baseball and basketball at Millville Senior High School, demonstrating significant athletic talent. Originally a pitcher and shortstop, Trout transitioned to the outfield in his senior year, where he set a New Jersey high school record with 18 home runs. He committed to play baseball at East Carolina University before being drafted by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the 1st round (25th overall) of the 2009 MLB June Amateur Draft. He began his professional career with the rookie-level Arizona Angels in 2009.
Trout quickly ascended through the minor league ranks, earning the Topps Minor League Player of the Year Award in 2010 as the youngest player to do so. He made his major league debut with the Los Angeles Angels on July 8, 2011. The following season, in a breakout year, Trout unanimously won the American League Rookie of the Year Award. His consistent high-level performance has established him as a premier player in Major League Baseball.
Throughout his career with the Angels, Trout has accumulated numerous individual achievements and is recognized for his combination of power, speed, and defensive skills. He has been an 11-time All-Star, a three-time American League Most Valuable Player (2014, 2016, 2019), and a nine-time Silver Slugger Award winner. These milestones underscore his significant impact on the sport. In 2019, he signed a 12-year, $426 million contract with the Angels, one of the largest contracts in professional sports history at the time.
