Milly Shapiro is an American singer and actress famous for originating the role of Matilda Wormwood on Broadway. She also starred as Sally Brown in You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown in an Off-Broadway production, and made her movie debut in the horror movie Hereditary in 2018. Shapiro has also performed together with her sister Abigail as the Shapiro Sisters.
Born in Tampa, Florida, Shapiro began voice training aged 3 and acting aged 5 inspired by her sister. She was discovered when she 10 years old and began to train as a professional actress-singer, relocating to New York where she landed the lead role of Matilda in the Broadway production of Matilda the Musical. Her impressive performance helped Shapiro rise to prominence as a theatre actress, and Shapiro,Bailey Ryon, Sophia Gennusa and Oona Laurence won a Tony Honor in 2013 for the show, becoming the youngest recipients of the award in history. Following Matilda, Shapiro was cast in the first off-Broadway production of You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown before making her movie debut as Charlie in horror flick Hereditary.
Since her rise to fame in Matilda she has created a series of cabarets and concerts at 54 Below with her sister Abigail in support of the Anti-Bullying Movement. Shapiro is passionate about both film and theatre work, and the world eagerly awaits the young star’s next move.
