About

Minjee Lee was born on May 27, 1996, in Perth, Western Australia. Her parents, Soonam and Clara Lee, immigrated to Australia from Korea in the early 1990s. From an early age, Lee demonstrated significant talent in golf, becoming the youngest winner of the WA Amateur Open in 2010 while still a Year 9 student. She continued her amateur success, winning the 2012 U.S. Girls’ Junior and the Australian Women’s Amateur in both 2013 and 2014. Her dominant performance led to her becoming the number one ranked amateur golfer globally in February 2014 after her victory at the Oates Victorian Open on the ALPG Tour. She maintained this top ranking until she turned professional in September 2014, following her contribution to Australia’s win at the Espirito Santo Trophy.

Lee quickly established herself on the professional circuit, joining the LPGA Tour in 2015. She secured her first LPGA Tour victory at the Kingsmill Championship on May 18, 2015. Her career has since been marked by steady progression and significant achievements, including 11 LPGA Tour wins and 3 major championships. Beyond her individual successes, she has represented Australia in the women’s golf competition at the Olympic Games, finishing tied for 7th at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro and 29th at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Her consistent performance has also been recognized through awards such as the Greg Norman Medal in 2018, 2021, and 2023, and the Rolex Annika Major Award in 2022 and 2025. She also won the season-long Aon Risk Reward Challenge in 2022, securing a $1,000,000 prize.

Minjee Lee’s professional career highlights include major championship wins at the 2021 Amundi Evian Championship, the 2022 U.S. Women’s Open, and the 2025 Women’s PGA Championship. The 2022 U.S. Women’s Open victory was particularly notable, earning her the largest payout in women’s golf history at $1.8 million from a total prize purse of $10 million. Her career earnings total over $18.5 million, reflecting her consistent placement among the top golfers. Her journey exemplifies dedication and a pursuit of excellence, transitioning from a top amateur to a leading professional golfer on the world stage.
