About

Donté Sims, known professionally as Mystique Summers, was born in 1984 or 1985 and hails from Chicago, with residences established in Bedford, Texas, and Cincinnati, Ohio. Her journey into drag began as a dare, evolving into a significant career that showcased her talents as a performer and makeup artist. Summers gained national recognition as one of the ten contestants on the second season of RuPaul’s Drag Race, which premiered on February 1, 2010. During her time on the show, she became notable for her confident demeanor and memorable catchphrases, including “Bitch, I’m from Chicago!” which became an iconic moment within the franchise.

On RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 2, Mystique Summers placed 10th overall. She secured a Mini Challenge win in Episode 3, where she also served as a team captain. Despite her mini-challenge victory, she was eliminated in the same episode after a lip-sync performance. Notably, Summers was the first plus-size queen to avoid immediate elimination and the first contestant to achieve 10th place in the show’s history. Her drag name, Mystique, was inspired by the shapeshifting X-Men character, reflecting her transformation from male to female persona. The surname “Summers” originated from her drag mother, Genie Summers, and coincidentally linked to Scott Summers from X-Men.

Following her appearance on RuPaul’s Drag Race, Mystique Summers continued to build her career within the drag community. She consistently performs in drag shows and actively participates in Drag Race-related events, particularly across Texas. Her engagements have included events like “Big Phat Loser” in Philadelphia in 2015, which featured other plus-size Drag Race alumni, and a fundraiser for Hurricane Maria relief efforts in 2017. In 2019, she emceed a show sponsored by AARP. During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, she transitioned to digital platforms, performing at RuPaul’s Digital DragCon and “Introvert: An Online Drag Show” for Pride Portland, as well as the Twitch-hosted “Black Girl Magic.” Summers has continued to engage with fans and the community, appearing at DragCon LA in 2022 and performing in “A Decade of Drag” for the Maverick Rainbow Scholarship at the University of Texas at Arlington.
