Ndukwe Dike Kalu was born on August 3, 1975, in Baltimore, Maryland. He attended John Marshall High School in San Antonio, Texas, where he achieved a high jump record of 7 ft 0 in (2.13 m). Kalu continued his education and football career at Rice University, playing for the Rice Owls. His performance in college led to his selection by the Philadelphia Eagles in the fifth round of the 1997 NFL Draft as the 152nd overall pick. This marked the beginning of his professional football journey, which spanned over a decade in the National Football League.
Kalu’s NFL career included stints with three different teams. He began with the Philadelphia Eagles in 1997, then moved to the Washington Redskins from 1998 to 2000. He returned to the Philadelphia Eagles for a second tenure from 2001 to 2005. He concluded his professional playing career with the Houston Texans, where he played from 2006 to 2008. Over his 11-year NFL career, Kalu played in 136 games, recorded 31.0 sacks, 195 combined tackles, and secured one interception which he returned for a touchdown in 2003. His consistent presence on the defensive line demonstrated his value to the teams he played for.
Following his retirement from professional football in 2008, Kalu transitioned into new professional endeavors.
