Nang Khin Zay Yar was born on March 4, 1988, in Taunggyi, Burma, to Nang Phyu Phyu Khine and Khun Aung Myat. She completed her Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree from Taunggyi University. Rather than pursuing a legal career, she initially worked as a tour guide for five years. Her command of both English and German facilitated her career in tourism.

In 2011, Nang Khin Zay Yar began her career in modeling, participating in photoshoots for various magazines, journals, and model websites. A significant turning point in her career occurred in March 2012 when she won the Miss Myanmar 2012 title. This victory also earned her the “Miss Yangon” title and the designation of a tourism ambassador for Myanmar. Following this success, she secured advertisement deals and began appearing in Burmese videos and films.

Her international recognition increased when she represented Myanmar at the 52nd Miss International Beauty Pageant in Okinawa, Japan, in October 2012. This marked a historic moment as she was the first Burmese national to compete in the pageant in over 50 years. During the competition, she received substantial support, notably topping the People’s Choice list with nearly 21 million votes. She also won the Missosology’s Miss International 2012 People’s Choice Award, Pageantology.net Miss International 2012 People’s Choice Award, and the Miss Internet Award.
