Natasia Charlotte Demetriou was born on January 15, 1984, in London, to an English mother and a Greek-Cypriot father, and was raised in North London. She pursued her education in acting at the University of Leeds. Before embarking on her professional comedy career, Demetriou worked as a makeup artist, contributing to music videos for artists such as Boy Better Know. Her early career also involved developing her comedic talent, evidenced by her debut show, “You’ll Never Have All of Me,” which earned her the Skinny Debutant Award at the 2014 Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Demetriou made her television debut in 2013 and was a member of the sketch comedy troupe Oyster Eyes, further honing her skills in performance and writing.
Demetriou’s career progressed with significant roles in television and film. She gained widespread recognition for her portrayal of Sophie in the Channel 4 sitcom “Stath Lets Flats,” which aired from 2018 to 2021. This collaboration with her brother, Jamie Demetriou, who created and wrote the series, garnered critical acclaim, including three BAFTA awards in 2020. Simultaneously, from 2019 to 2024, Demetriou starred as Nadja, a Greek Romani vampire, in the FX horror-comedy series “What We Do in the Shadows.” Her performance in this series led to a Critics’ Choice Super Award for Best Actress in a Science Fiction/Fantasy Series in 2021 and multiple other nominations. In 2022, she co-created, co-wrote, and starred in the BBC sketch show “Ellie & Natasia” with Ellie White, a project that was renewed for a second series in 2023.
