Nate Berkus is a renowned American interior designer, author, and television host known for his impactful contributions to the design world. Born on September 17, 1971, in Orange County, California, Berkus grew up in a creative family with a strong design influence from his mother, Nancy Golden, and an entrepreneurial spirit from his father, Michael A. Berkus. After attending Cushing Academy and Lake Forest College, Berkus launched his career in design, interning at Dominique Aurientis in Paris and Leslie Hindman in Chicago before founding his own firm, Nate Berkus Associates, in 1995.
Berkus gained widespread recognition as a regular guest on The Oprah Winfrey Show, where he offered design advice and orchestrated home makeovers. His own talk show, The Nate Berkus Show, premiered in 2010 and showcased his expertise in design, culture, and personal advice until its cancellation in 2012.
In 2017, Berkus co-hosted Nate & Jeremiah by Design on TLC with his husband, Jeremiah Brent. The show highlights their design skills and personal lives. Berkus also made notable appearances on Oprah’s Big Give and was an executive producer for the film The Help.
A prolific author, Berkus published Home Rules in 2005 and has been a prominent voice in interior design. In addition to his television work, Berkus and Brent were featured in Banana Republic’s “True Outfitters” campaign, making history as the first same-sex couple in the ads. Berkus and Brent reside in Manhattan with their two children, Poppy and Oskar.
