Amiyah Scott was born on January 11, 1988, in Manhattan, New York City, and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. Early in her life, she became a respected member of the LGBT ball community. Scott gained significant internet recognition when videos of her performances in ballrooms were shared online, and she became visible on platforms like Instagram after posting a before-and-after photo that showcased her transition. In 2015, Scott was cast in the eighth season of “The Real Housewives of Atlanta,” making history as the first transgender woman to join the “Real Housewives” franchise. She later departed from the show due to concerns about how her trans identity was being portrayed by producers.
Following her departure from reality television, Amiyah Scott secured her first acting role in Lee Daniels’ television series “Star” in 2016. She portrayed the character Cotton for three seasons, from 2016 to 2019, appearing in 48 episodes. Beyond her acting career, Scott has established herself as a motivational speaker and activist, focusing on issues such as bullying, self-esteem, and self-acceptance, particularly for transgender women. In 2018, she received the GLAAD Rising Star Award at the GLAAD Atlanta Gala, recognizing her advocacy work. Scott also authored her memoir, “Memoirs of a Mermaid,” which was published on March 31, 2019, and launched her own beauty line, Amiyah Beauty, with RivalWorld, featuring a lip-gloss as its initial product. She continues to advocate for the LGBTQ+ community and has appeared as a guest judge on “Legendary” in 2021.
