Nathan Myhrvold holds a Bachelor of Science in mathematics and a Master of Science in geophysics and space physics from UCLA, alongside a master’s degree in mathematical economics and a Ph.D. in applied mathematics from Princeton University. After completing a postdoctoral fellowship in cosmology with Stephen Hawking at Cambridge University, Myhrvold co-founded Dynamical Systems Research Inc. In 1986, following the acquisition of Dynamical Systems Research by Microsoft, Myhrvold began a thirteen-year tenure at the technology giant.
Further demonstrating his commitment to global impact, he co-founded Global Good with Bill Gates, an initiative dedicated to inventing technologies for global health and development, notably establishing the Institute for Disease Modeling, a leader in computational epidemiology. Beyond his entrepreneurial and inventive pursuits, Myhrvold has published original scientific research in areas including paleontology, planetary science, and climate science. He has also authored a critically acclaimed series of award-winning cookbooks, starting with ‘Modernist Cuisine: The Art and Science of Cooking’ in 2011, followed by ‘Modernist Bread’ in 2017, and ‘Modernist Pizza’ in 2021. Looking ahead, Myhrvold is set to release his next work, ‘Natural Wonders,’ in 2025, continuing his exploration of scientific and culinary innovation.
