United States Neil Cavuto is an accomplished American television news anchor, executive, commentator, and business journalist, known for his long-standing roles at Fox News and Fox Business Network.
Cavuto was the host of Your World with Neil Cavuto and Cavuto Live on Fox News. He was one of the first anchors hired by the network in 1996 and remained a prominent figure for 28 years until his departure in December 2024. He played a significant role in defining business news for the channel.
Cavuto served as Senior Vice President, Anchor, and Managing Editor of Business News for both Fox News Channel and Fox Business Network. He hosted 'Cavuto: Coast to Coast' and was integral to the network's business news content.
Before joining Fox, Cavuto was a principal anchor and reporter for CNBC, where he co-anchored the network's initial broadcast on April 17, 1989, and hosted 'Power Lunch'.
Cavuto worked with PBS for 15 years, reporting for 'Nightly Business Report', contributing to his extensive background in financial journalism.
Neil Patrick Cavuto was born on September 22, 1958, in Westbury, New York, and raised in Danbury, Connecticut. His early life included working as a manager at a fish and chips restaurant while still in high school. Furthering his education, he attended St. Bonaventure University, graduating in 1980 with a bachelor’s degree in mass communication. He later earned a master’s degree from American University. During the Carter Administration, Cavuto also gained experience as a White House intern.
Cavuto’s broadcasting career began with various roles, including serving as a New York City bureau chief and reporting for the Public Broadcasting Service’s Nightly Business Report for 15 years. He joined CNBC as a principal anchor and reporter, co-anchoring the network’s initial broadcast on April 17, 1989, and later hosted “Power Lunch.” In July 1996, Cavuto transitioned to Fox News, becoming the host and managing editor of “Your World with Neil Cavuto” when the network launched in October of the same year. His role expanded in March 2006 when he was made vice president of FOX Business News, concurrently holding all three positions. He also hosted “Cavuto: Coast to Coast” on the Fox Business Network. Over his career, Cavuto has received five nominations for Cable ACE awards and authored two New York Times best-selling books, “More Than Money” and “Your Money or Your Life.
Cavuto was with Fox News for 28 years until his departure on December 19, 2024, after declining a new contract. Throughout his tenure, he was recognized for his critical stance on President Donald Trump, leading to him being labeled a “Trump skeptic” by outlets like NPR and The Daily Beast. He has also openly discussed his personal health struggles, including battling cancer, multiple sclerosis, and undergoing cardiac surgery. In 2021, he publicly shared his experience with COVID-19, crediting vaccination for mitigating the severity of the illness. He later had a second COVID-19 infection, which resulted in hospitalization with pneumonia, and continued to advocate for vaccines upon his recovery.
