Cartier Niko Goodrum, born on February 28, 1992, in Atlanta, Georgia, embarked on his professional baseball journey after attending Fayette County High School in Fayetteville, GA. He was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the second round as the 71st overall pick in the 2010 Major League Baseball draft. Goodrum spent several years developing his skills in the minor leagues, playing for teams such as the Gulf Coast Twins, Elizabethton Twins, Cedar Rapids Kernals, and Fort Myers Miracle. His early career saw him transition from shortstop to third base, demonstrating an adaptability that would become a hallmark of his playing style.
Goodrum made his Major League Baseball debut on September 2, 2017, with the Minnesota Twins. His career took a significant turn when he signed with the Detroit Tigers in 2017, making their Opening Day roster in 2018. With the Tigers, he showcased his versatility by playing across all four infield positions, along with left field and right field. He received the 2018 Detroit Tigers Rookie of the Year Award. In 2019, he further highlighted his athletic capabilities with a five-hit game, including two home runs, against the Atlanta Braves. Beyond the field, Goodrum has been actively involved in community initiatives, participating in the “MLB The Show” Player Challenge to support the Boys & Girls Club of Southeastern Michigan in 2020 and donating water during the Flint water crisis in 2018 and 2019.
Goodrum’s career continued with stints with the Houston Astros in 2022, the Lotte Giants of the Korean Baseball Organization in 2023, and returned to stateside ball in 2024, playing for the Tampa Bay Rays and Los Angeles Angels. He then signed minor league contracts with the Baltimore Orioles and San Diego Padres before briefly joining the New York Mets organization in 2025, where he ultimately retired from professional baseball on April 23, 2025. Throughout his career, Goodrum consistently demonstrated his ability to contribute across various roles on the team, accumulating a career regular season batting average of .224 with 42 home runs, 152 RBIs, and 47 stolen bases over 1404 at-bats in MLB.
