Born on September 15, 1977, Noah Shachtman is an American journalist with a career marked by significant editorial roles and impactful reporting. He pursued his education at Georgetown University and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Before venturing into journalism, Shachtman worked as a campaign staffer during Bill Clinton’s 1992 presidential campaign, a book editor, and a professional bass player. His diverse early experiences laid a foundation for his multifaceted career in media.

Shachtman’s journalism career began to take shape in 2003 when he founded Defensetech.org, a site that Military.com acquired the following year. In 2006, he became a contributing editor at Wired, where he co-founded the Danger Room blog. This initiative earned an Online Journalism Award for Beat Reporting in 2007 and a National Magazine Award for reporting in digital media in 2012. He further developed his expertise in international affairs as an executive editor for News at Foreign Policy magazine before joining The Daily Beast in 2014 as executive editor. The Poynter Institute recognized his contribution, stating he helped turn The Daily Beast into “a journalistic scoop factory.” He assumed the role of editor-in-chief at The Daily Beast in May 2018, leading the publication until 2021.
