Odeya Rushinek, known professionally as Odeya Rush, was born on May 12, 1997, in Haifa, Israel. Her early life involved writing and performing plays in her hometown. At the age of nine, Rush moved to the United States with her family, initially residing in Alabama before relocating to Midland Park, New Jersey, and later Los Angeles. She became a U.S. citizen in 2018. Before her acting career, Rush entered the modeling industry in the United States, appearing in campaigns for fashion brands such as Polo Ralph Lauren, Gap, Tommy Hilfiger, and H&M, and a summer campaign for FILA and Urban Outfitters in 2018. Her acting debut came in 2010 with a role in an episode of “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” and an appearance in “Curb Your Enthusiasm.”
Rush’s film career began in 2012 with “The Odd Life of Timothy Green.” She gained wider recognition for her co-starring role as Fiona in the 2014 science fiction film “The Giver,” which also featured Jeff Bridges and Meryl Streep. This was followed by the lead female role in the 2015 film “Goosebumps,” where she played Hannah Fairchild alongside Jack Black. At 18, Rush expanded her creative endeavors by writing, directing, and starring in her own short film, “Thanks” (2016). She continued to accumulate film credits, including “The Hunter’s Prayer” (2017) and “Dear Dictator” (2017).
A significant milestone in Rush’s career was her supporting role in Greta Gerwig’s Oscar-nominated film “Lady Bird” (2017), where she played Jenna Walton. The film garnered multiple award nominations for its ensemble cast. She subsequently took on a leading role in “Dumplin'” (2018) alongside Jennifer Aniston. In recent years, Rush has continued to develop her skills behind the camera, directing two short-film-style music videos and taking on roles in projects like the Israeli drama series “Baalat HaChalomot” (2021) and the films “Umma” (2022) and “Cha Cha Real Smooth” (2022). She has two upcoming acting projects, “The Isolate Thief” and “Memory of a Killer,” and is in post-production for “Corporate Retreat.”
