Osric Chau

Osric Chau was born in Vancouver, Canada, to a father from Hong Kong and a mother from Malaysia. He initially pursued martial arts, training in Wing Chun for eight years, as well as tai chi and wushu. In 2007, he became a member of the Canadian National Wushu Team after seven months of intensive training. His early aspirations were centered on a career in stunts, leading to work on projects for EA Games.

His career path shifted towards acting when he secured his first leading role in ‘Kung Fu Killer’ (2008) alongside David Carradine. The following year, Chau appeared in Roland Emmerich’s “2012” (2009), a film that grossed over $760 million worldwide. This success provided further opportunities, including roles in “What Women Want” (2012) and “The Man with the Iron Fists” (2012). In 2011, he landed another significant role in Paramount’s “Fun Size” (2012).

A turning point in Chau’s career occurred in 2012 when he joined the cast of “Supernatural” as Kevin Tran, a role he played across 16 episodes in seasons 7-9 and 11, and again in 2019. This exposure significantly increased his profile. He expanded into producing with the independent film “Empty by Design” (2019) and later took on the role of Ryan Choi in the Arrowverse’s “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover events (2019, 2021), and returned as Ryan Choi in “The Flash” (2021). Chau continues to advocate for Asian American representation in film and television.
