Patrick Graham

Patrick Graham, born on January 24, 1979, in Des Plaines, Illinois, developed an early passion for football from his hometown of Waterbury, Connecticut. He pursued a college football career as a defensive lineman at Yale University, where he also earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology with concentrations in economics and African American studies. Following his graduation in 2002, Graham began his coaching journey as a graduate assistant at Wagner, showcasing his commitment to the sport from the outset. He further honed his coaching skills at the University of Richmond, serving as defensive line coach and tight ends coach, and later as a defensive graduate assistant at the University of Notre Dame.

Graham’s NFL coaching career began in 2009 with the New England Patriots, where he spent seven seasons. During this period, he progressed through various roles, including coaching assistant, defensive assistant, linebackers coach, and defensive line coach. A significant career milestone during his time with the Patriots was winning Super Bowl XLIX. His tenure saw the Patriots consistently achieve top defensive rankings, with his position groups excelling in takeaways and sacks. Following his time in New England, Graham moved to the New York Giants, serving as defensive line coach, before joining the Green Bay Packers as linebackers coach and run game coordinator in 2018. In 2019, he earned his first defensive coordinator position with the Miami Dolphins, where he successfully navigated a challenging season marked by roster changes and injuries.

He returned to the New York Giants in 2020 as assistant head coach and defensive coordinator, where he implemented defenses that significantly improved the team’s performance, notably in points allowed and rushing defense. In 2022, Graham joined the Las Vegas Raiders as defensive coordinator, continuing to lead defenses that show consistent improvement. Under his guidance, players like Maxx Crosby have achieved Pro Bowl selections and career-best statistics. His coaching philosophy emphasizes development, as seen with undrafted rookies and veteran players alike. Graham’s continuous advancement through various coaching roles underscores his expertise and impact on defensive strategies within the National Football League.
