Deebo Samuel

Tyshun Raequan “Deebo” Samuel Sr., born on January 15, 1996, in Inman, South Carolina, established himself as a prominent figure in Football from a young age. During his high school career at Chapman High School, Samuel set a school record with 53 career touchdowns, alongside 2,751 receiving yards and 898 rushing yards. He was recognized as the High School Sports Report Class AAA Offensive Player of the Year and participated in the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas, an all-star game for high school athletes. His collegiate career at the University of South Carolina saw him redshirt in 2014 before making an impact.

Samuel’s college years with the South Carolina Gamecocks demonstrated his developing skill set despite challenges with injuries. In his sophomore season in 2016, he led the team with 59 receptions for 783 yards and added six rushing touchdowns. The 2017 season highlighted his dynamic play, including two kickoff return touchdowns in the first two games, before a fibula injury limited his participation. He returned for a strong senior season in 2018, accumulating 882 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns, including a notable 10-catch, 210-yard, three-touchdown performance against Clemson.

Drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft, Samuel quickly adapted to the professional level. His rookie season included significant contributions, playing in Super Bowl LIV and setting a record for most rushing yards by a wide receiver in the event. The 2021 season marked a career highlight, earning him First-team All-Pro honors and a Pro Bowl selection. During this period, he coined the term “wide back” to describe his unique role, which involved extensive usage as both a receiver and a running back, setting an NFL record with eight rushing touchdowns by a wide receiver in a single season. In 2025, Samuel was traded to the Washington Commanders, where he continues to be a key offensive asset, demonstrating his consistent ability to impact games with his versatile play.
