Paul Chowdhury

Paul Chowdhury, born Tajpaul Singh Chowdhry on August 21, 1974, in Edgware, London, began his stand-up comedy career in 1998, performing in pubs and clubs across London. He is of Indian Punjabi Sikh descent and has become one of the UK’s top-selling stand-up comics. His early career saw him as the first British act to perform at the Caribbean Comedy Festival in Trinidad in 2003, marking an early milestone in his international presence. Chowdhry quickly established a reputation for his razor-sharp delivery and observational wit, often incorporating themes of race, multiculturalism, and British identity into his routines. He gained significant exposure through television appearances, including a recurring role on “Stand Up for the Week” and two headlining slots on “Live at the Apollo” in 2012 and 2015.

Chowdhry continued to build his career with multiple successful tours and stand-up specials. His specials, including “What’s Happening White People?” (2012), “PC’s World” (2015), and “Live Innit” (2019) on Amazon Prime Video, have garnered widespread attention. A significant achievement in his career came in 2017 when he became the first comedian of Asian heritage to sell out Wembley Arena. Beyond comedy, Chowdhry has expanded into acting, with roles in films such as “Colour Me Kubrick” (2005), “Swinging with the Finkels” (2011), and “Cruella” (2021), where he played a Restaurant Owner. He also featured in the TV series “Devils” (2019-2022) as Kalim Chowdrey.

His career progression also includes participation in popular reality and panel shows like “Taskmaster” (2016) and “8 Out of 10 Cats.” Chowdhry has received numerous accolades for his work, including the Comedy award at the Eastern Eye Arts, Culture & Theatre Awards 2019, and Comedian of the Year at the Asian Voice Political & Public Life Awards 2019. His show “Live Innit?” was recognized with the Best Live Event 2018 at the ITV Asian Media Awards. In 2021, he launched “The Paul Chowdhry PudCast,” where he interviews fellow comedians, further cementing his influence in the comedy scene. His “Englandia” UK stand-up tour for 2025 is scheduled to include a show at The O2.
