Coming out of London, England, author and journalist Paul French has numerous published books under his belt. His most successfully released book to date is Midnight Peking: How the Murder of a Young Englishwoman Haunted the Last Days of Old China.
Not only was the book a commercial success, but it would go on to appear on several best seller lists around the world including New York Time’s Best Seller. Midnight in Peking also won the 2013 Mystery Writer’s of America Edgar Award for the Best Crime Fact category. Midnight in Peking was also nominated for the 2013 Crime Writer’s Association CWA Gold Dagger for Non-Fiction, the 2012 Australian Book Industry Awards for International Success of the Year and the 2013 Macavity Awards for Best Mystery Non-Fiction.
French is the co-founder of the independent research firm known as Access Asia. French has worked as a journalist for several companies across the globe. For China, his work included operating as a columnist for the China Economic Quarterly, The China Economic Review, the China Editor of Ethical Corporation magazine and the South China Morning Post. In the UK, Paul served as a columnist for Real Crime magazine.
Paul is a former board member of the Shanghai Foreign Correspondents Club and the Korea Research Hub. He has operated as a book reviewer while contributing to the British Literary Review, The Washington Post, The Asian Review of Books and The Los Angeles Review of Books. French operates as the author of the blog China Rhyming: A gallimaufry of random China history and research interests.
