Paul “Pablo” Wilson is a talented Scottish musician renowned for his dynamic contributions to the alternative rock scene, particularly as the former bass guitarist for the celebrated band Snow Patrol. Wilson’s musical journey began in Glasgow, where he initially showcased his skills as a guitarist with the band Terra Diablo from 2000 to 2005. His time with Terra Diablo allowed him to hone his craft and develop a strong stage presence, often joining Snow Patrol on stage during their tours, which laid the groundwork for his future with the band.
In March 2005, following the departure of Snow Patrol’s bassist Mark McClelland, Wilson was invited to join the band as a permanent member. His first performance with Snow Patrol took place in Dingle, marking the beginning of a fruitful collaboration. Wilson’s versatility as a multi-instrumentalist enabled him to contribute not only bass lines but also guitar and keyboard parts, enriching the band’s sound. His creative input was particularly evident in tracks like “Just Say Yes,” where he showcased his ability to blend seamlessly with the band’s musical style.
Throughout his tenure with Snow Patrol, Wilson faced challenges, including an arm injury during the Eyes Open Tour, yet he remained committed to his craft. His dedication to music led him to explore various projects, including guest appearances on albums like Film School’s “Hideout.” In September 2023, Wilson embarked on a new chapter by leaving Snow Patrol to focus on his metal project, Above as Below, releasing the single “Luna” to critical acclaim.
Wilson’s musical style is characterized by his love for the guitar, which he played for nineteen years before transitioning to bass. He embraces the challenges of the bass guitar, finding joy in its potential to transform a song’s sound. With a collection of impressive equipment, including Rickenbacker basses and Ampeg amplifiers, Wilson continues to inspire audiences with his passion for music and his commitment to artistic growth.
