About

Pietro Fittipaldi da Cruz was born on June 25, 1996, in Miami, Florida. The grandson of two-time Formula One World Champion Emerson Fittipaldi, Pietro began his racing career in America’s karting ranks from 2006 to 2010. He then transitioned to stock car racing in 2011, where he quickly achieved success, becoming champion and ‘Rookie of the Year’ in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series for Limited Late Models. The following year, he earned another ‘Rookie of the Year’ title in the Late Models category and secured a victory in the Pepsi 200 Fall Brawl, one of the biggest late model races. His early career demonstrated a rapid acclimatization to different racing disciplines and a consistent ability to secure wins and accolades.

Fittipaldi moved to Europe in 2013 to pursue open-wheel racing, competing in the British-based BRDC Formula 4 Championship and BARC Formula Renault Championship. His dedication was evident in the 2014 Protyre Formula Renault Championship, where he dominated the season with 10 wins from 15 starts, securing the title. He continued his progression, moving to the FIA Formula 3 European Championship in 2016, achieving three podium finishes. Further success came in the MRF Challenge Formula 2000 Championship, which he won with four victories from nine podiums. In 2017, Fittipaldi claimed the Formula V8 3.5 Championship with six wins, ten podiums, and a series-record ten pole positions, highlighting his consistent performance and competitive edge in open-wheel categories.

His career then expanded to various international series. In 2018, he competed in the IndyCar Series with Dale Coyne Racing, achieving a ninth-place finish at the Grand Prix of Portland. That same year, Fittipaldi was confirmed as Haas F1 Team’s official test driver, making his Formula One debut at the post-season Pirelli tire test in a VF-18 chassis. He became a test and reserve driver for Haas in 2019, combining DTM racing with F1 testing duties. In 2020, he made two Grand Prix starts for Haas, filling in for an injured Romain Grosjean at the Sakhir and Abu Dhabi Grands Prix, completing both races. His role with Haas has continued through 2024, alongside his full-time return to the IndyCar Series in 2024 with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing, and participation in IMSA SportsCar Championship and European Le Mans Series.
