Professional footballer Raheem Sterling plays for the England national side, as well as for Premier League club Manchester City.
Sterling moved to England aged five, and began his footballing career almost immediately. He played for England throughout his youth, making appearances in the Under 16, Under 17, Under 19 and Under 21 teams. He made his fist senior debut in 2012, aged just 18, bursting onto the international scene and being chosen to represent his home country at the 2014 and 2018 World Cups, and UEFA Euro 2016. Alongside this successful international career, Sterling was also making waves at a club level. He joined Queen’s Park Rangers youth division, working his way through the training programme and being scouted for Liverpool. He signed with the club in 2010 and spent the next four years developing his skills on the pitch. In 2015 Sterling signed to Manchester City for a record breaking fee and has since had a hugely successful career with the club, winning the treble in the 2018- 2019 season.
This quick and versatile player has also spoken out about racism in sport, and particularly about the portrayal of black sportspeople in the British media. He has supported various social causes, including a substantial donation to victims of the Grenfell Tower fire. Sterling is now known as one of the best footballers of his generation, and continues to impress fans and players alike.
