Former Ireland international footballer, Brain Carey has enjoyed success both on and off the pitch. As well as having played in FA cup winning team, Manchester United and Football League teams Leicester City and Wrexham. He has also been an assistant manager to Doncaster, Wolverhampton and Chesterfield FC. He has also held the position of lead professional development coach at Blackburn Rovers.
His career began at Irish teams, Greenwood FC, Albert Rovers and Cork City before being spotted by Sir Alex Ferguson who signed him to the world-famous Manchester United Football Club. Manchester United loaned Carey to Wrexham where he played in the team’s unprecedented 2-1 win over the reigning league champions Arsenal. Following his success at Wrexham, Manchester United transferred him to Leicester City where he helped them beat long-term rivals Derby County 2-1 at Wembley, earning the club promotion to the Premier League. In 1996, he moved back to Wrexham as a full member of the squad and becoming a coach for the team upon his retirement from professional football in 2005. He became the manager for Wrexham in 2007, initially temporarily, but later permanently after saving the team from relegation.
