About

Randy Gene Moss was born on February 13, 1977, in Rand, West Virginia. He excelled in multiple sports during high school, including football, basketball, baseball, and track. His high school football career included leading DuPont High School to consecutive state championships in 1992 and 1993. Following a transfer to Marshall University for college, Moss made a significant impact, setting NCAA Division I-AA records for touchdown catches in a season (28) and consecutive games with a touchdown catch (13) in 1996. The 1996 Marshall Thundering Herd team won the Division I-AA title. In 1997, Marshall’s first season in Division I-A, Moss caught 26 touchdown passes, earning him first-team All-American honors and making him a finalist for the Heisman Trophy, where he finished fourth in balloting.

Moss was selected by the Minnesota Vikings in the first round (21st overall) of the 1998 NFL Draft. In his rookie year, he set an NFL record for touchdown receptions by a rookie with 17 and contributed to the Vikings’ then-record-setting offense. He earned Pro Bowl honors and was named NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year. Over his career, Moss played for the Minnesota Vikings, Oakland Raiders, New England Patriots, Tennessee Titans, and San Francisco 49ers. He holds the NFL single-season record for touchdown receptions (23 in 2007) and ranks second in career touchdown receptions (156) and fourth in career receiving yards (15,292). He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2018.

After his playing career, Moss transitioned to a role as a studio analyst for ESPN, appearing on ‘Sunday NFL Countdown’ and ‘Monday Night Countdown.’ He has also engaged in charitable endeavors, founding the Links for Learning foundation to support children’s education in West Virginia. Moss has also explored business ventures, including Randy Moss Motorsports in NASCAR and investments in the restaurant industry. While his playing career concluded in 2012, his influence continues through his media work and business activities.
