Rati Gupta was born on February 9, 1984, in Michigan City, Indiana, USA. Her parents, who are from India, relocated to the United States. Her father is a medical doctor, and her mother is from Varanasi. Gupta pursued a psychology and pre-medicine major at Northwestern University. Her initial career aspirations involved professional dance, aiming to be a backup dancer, but she later transitioned into acting after encountering difficulties in the dance industry. She then began studying acting in Los Angeles.
Gupta’s acting career commenced in 2011 with the TV movie “Worst. Prom. Ever.” where she played Nikki. She appeared in “Where the Road Meets the Sun” in the same year, playing Yamini. Her career progressed with roles in various television productions. In 2016, she appeared in an episode of “Better Things” as a Bank Teller. She gained wider recognition for her recurring role as Anu, the fiancée of Rajesh Ramayan Koothrappali, in the CBS sitcom “The Big Bang Theory” from 2018 to 2019, appearing in nine episodes. Her work expanded to included seven episodes of Hulu’s “Future Man” as Rake in 2019, and a guest role as Sally in Netflix’s “Unbelievable” in 2019.
In addition to her acting work, Gupta has also contributed as a writer and additional crew member. She was a writer for seven episodes of the TV series “Heart Baby Eggplant” in 2020, where she also played the character Rati. Earlier in her career, she served as a story editor for 55 episodes of the TV series “Does This Baby Make Me Look Fat?” from 2014 to 2018. In 2010, she worked as an assistant choreographer for the film “Maro Charitra.” Her diverse experiences across acting, writing, and production roles showcase her broad engagement within the entertainment industry.
