Ray Winstone

Ray Winstone first captivated audiences in his foundational role as Carlin in the 1979 BBC Play production of ‘Scum,’ a role he later reprised for the critically acclaimed film adaptation, establishing his presence in intense, character-driven dramas. Following this breakthrough, Winstone appeared in numerous television series, including ‘Robin of Sherwood’ (1984-1986) and ‘Birds of a Feather’ (1989). His film career significantly expanded with his performance in Gary Oldman’s ‘Nil by Mouth’ (1997), for which he earned a BAFTA nomination for Best Actor. He further solidified his reputation in prominent feature films such as ‘Sexy Beast’ (2000).

Winstone continued his prolific career with an International Emmy Award-winning role in the series ‘Vincent’ (2005). He collaborated with acclaimed directors, appearing in Martin Scorsese’s Oscar-winning film ‘The Departed’ (2006) and Steven Spielberg’s ‘Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull’ (2008). Demonstrating his versatility, he also provided motion capture and voice for the titular character in Robert Zemeckis’ ‘Beowulf’ (2007). Beaver in ‘The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe’ (2005), Rango in ‘Rango’ (2011), and Papa Bear in ‘Puss in Boots: The Last Wish’ (2022). Throughout the 2010s and early 2020s, Winstone maintained a busy schedule across film and television. He portrayed King Saul in the series ‘Of Kings and Prophets’ (2016) and joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe in ‘Black Widow’ (2021). Beyond acting, Winstone has ventured into production, co-founding Size 9 and Flicks production companies, further expanding his influence in the industry.

Looking ahead, Winstone recently appeared as Bobby Glass in the critically acclaimed Netflix series ‘The Gentlemen’ (2024).
