Ricardo Hurtado

Ricardo Javier Hurtado was born on August 22, 1999, in Miami, Florida, to parents Ricardo Hurtado and Ofelia Ramírez, both originally from Nicaragua. At one year old, his family relocated to Atlanta, Georgia, where he spent his early life. Hurtado began his acting career in 2016, making his debut in the Nickelodeon film “Ultimate Halloween Haunted House.” His breakthrough came with a main role in the musical-comedy series “School of Rock,” where he portrayed Freddy Huerta from 2016 to 2018. During this period, he received a nomination for Best Young Actor – Television at the 2017 Imagen Awards and for Best Young Ensemble – Television Series at the 2018 Young Entertainer Awards, establishing his presence in the industry.

Following his success on Nickelodeon, Hurtado expanded his portfolio with lead roles in Netflix productions. He starred as Tyler Gossard in the comedy action-adventure series “Malibu Rescue” and its subsequent movie sequels, “Malibu Rescue – The Movie” and “Malibu Rescue: The Next Wave,” which premiered in 2019 and 2020, respectively. In 2020, he took on a significant voice acting role as Hector “High Five” Nieves/Hi-5 in the animated series “Glitch Techs.” His career progression included additional television appearances in series like “The Goldbergs” and “Bunk’d,” and voice acting contributions to “Middle School Moguls” and “It’s Pony.” In 2021, he further cemented his relationship with Netflix by starring in the musical comedy-drama series “Country Comfort.”

Hurtado continued to diversify his roles with film projects such as the animated satirical science fiction comedy film “Ron’s Gone Wrong” (2021), where he voiced Rich Belcher. In 2022, he appeared in the romantic drama “Along for the Ride,” a Netflix film based on Sarah Dessen’s novel. His work in feature films continued with “Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken” (2023), where he provided voice work, and a starring role in the drama film “What Rhymes with Reason” (2023). These projects showcase his ability to navigate various genres and platforms, from live-action to animation, and television to feature films, reflecting a consistent and evolving career in entertainment.
