In Ricardo Hurtado’s first week of acting auditions, he booked a main role on the Nickelodeon TV series, School of Rock, playing Freddy the drummer.
Born in Nicaragua, Hurtado was surrounded by a very musical family, inspiring him to get involved in the arts from a young age. His musical talent served him well in his acting endeavors, given School of Rock is a musical show. During his time on Nickelodeon, he also appeared on the network’s Not So Valentine’s Specials, and in episodes of Nicky, Rick, Dicky and Dawn and The Thundermans. Recently, he returned to his Nickelodeon roots to voice the lead role of Hector Nieves in the animated show, Glitch Techs.
To teenaged audiences, Hurtado’s better known as the lead role in Netflix’s Malibu Rescue, playing Tyler Gossard. The show’s seen immense success, leading to two original Netflix movies: Malibu Rescue-The Movie and Malibu Rescue: The Next Wave. He also appeared in an episode of the Netflix original series, Prince of Peoria. Other major on-screen appearances include Disney’s Bunk’d, FOX’s The Mick, and a recurring role on ABC’s The Goldbergs.
And since his television debut, he’s also had immense success in music. On YouTube, he posts original music videos, covers, and more for his 227K subscribers, and some of those videos have upwards of a million views. He’s also on Spotify, where his acoustic version of “Perfect” has nearly half a million streams. As for Instagram, Hurtado has nearly one million followers, eager to see what creative project he’ll do next. Right now, that’s his upcoming film, The Lies I Tell Myself, where he’ll play the role of Elliot.
