About

Richard Jefferson, born on June 21, 1980, in Los Angeles, California, embarked on his basketball journey at Moon Valley High School in Phoenix, Arizona, where he contributed to a 4A State Championship in 1998. He further honed his skills at the University of Arizona from 1998 to 2001, averaging 11.2 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 2.8 assists over 84 games. During his college career, he was part of the Arizona team that reached the 2001 NCAA national championship game. His collegiate achievements led to his induction into the Pac-12 Basketball Hall of Honor in 2012.

Jefferson was selected as the 13th overall pick in the first round of the 2001 NBA Draft by the Houston Rockets, though he was immediately traded to the New Jersey Nets. He spent seven seasons with the Nets, playing a key role in their back-to-back Eastern Conference Championship teams in 2002 and 2003, and reaching the NBA Finals in his first two professional seasons. During his tenure with the Nets, he consistently demonstrated versatility and scoring ability. A significant milestone occurred in August 2007 when he pledged $3.5 million to the University of Arizona for a basketball and volleyball practice facility, which was subsequently named in his honor. Following his time with the Nets, Jefferson played for several other NBA franchises.

His career included stints with the Milwaukee Bucks (2008-2009), San Antonio Spurs (2009-2012), Golden State Warriors (2012-2013), Utah Jazz (2013-2014), Dallas Mavericks (2014-2015), Cleveland Cavaliers (2015-2017), and Denver Nuggets (2017-2018). A career highlight was winning an NBA championship with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2016. He retired from professional basketball in 2018. Post-retirement, Jefferson transitioned into broadcasting, joining the YES Network as a Nets game and studio analyst in 2018, and later ESPN as an NBA analyst in 2019. He also co-hosts the podcast ‘Road Trippin” and has expanded his media presence to platforms like TikTok.
