Richard Madden’s screen acting career commenced with his role as young Andy in a film adaptation of Iain Banks’ ‘Complicity’ (2000), followed by his portrayal of Sebastian in the children’s television series ‘Barmy Aunt Boomerang’ (19992000). After graduating from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in 2007, Madden honed his craft through stage work, performing with The Arches and the Glasgow Repertory Company, notably in Franz Xaver Kroetz’s play ‘Tom Fool’ at the Citizens Theatre. This foundation led to his securing the role of Romeo in a Shakespeare’s Globe production that toured in 2007. Madden achieved widespread international recognition for his pivotal role as Robb Stark in the acclaimed HBO series ‘Game of Thrones’ from 2011 to 2013.
His influence was further recognized when Time magazine named him one of the ‘100 most influential people in the world’ in 2019. Also in 2019, he received the GQ Men of the Year Award for Hugo Boss Most Stylish Man. He continued his prolific film career with supporting roles as music manager John Reid in the Elton John biopic ‘Rocketman’ (2019) and as Lieutenant Joseph Blake in the Academy Award-winning war film ‘1917’ (2019), both of which were successful at the box office. More recently, Madden joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe, starring as Ikaris in the blockbuster film ‘Eternals’ (2021).
He then took on a leading role as Mason Kane in the action-thriller series ‘Citadel,’ which premiered on Amazon Prime Video in 2023 and is ongoing. His contributions to the arts were further honored when he received an honorary doctorate from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in 2019. Continuing to expand his diverse portfolio, Madden has upcoming projects including the film ‘Killer Heat’ and the television series ‘Trinity’.
