Former English professional Soccerer Rio Ferdinand remains a popular sporting figure and celebrity even after retirement from the game. The tough tackling centre back had an illustrious career with a number of sides, and he also made many appearances for the English national side. In fact, in all, he turned out 81 times for England and formed rock solid partnerships with the likes of John Terry. In his career, Rio played in three different World Cups and is still said to be one of the best centre backs the English game has ever seen.
Rio is one of the most decorated Soccerers of all time and after a fine youth career he started his pro career with West Ham. His first ever game in the Premier League came in 1996 and soon after he was a firm fan favourite. In 1997 Rio first played for England and then did so all the way through to 2011. In 2002 he joined Manchester United after two seasons at Leeds and won 6 Premier League titles and over 15 trophies in all. After leaving Man Utd he went on to play for Queens Park Rangers and then ultimately retired in May 2015. Since then he has appeared on TV as a pundit a number of times and is always forthright in his views of the game. Rio was selected in the PFA Team of the Year four times in five years and so remains a giant of the game and likely always will.
