About

Robert Louis Ginepri, born on October 7, 1982, in Fort Lauderdale, FL, USA, is an American former professional tennis player. He began his professional career in 2001. Ginepri achieved significant milestones throughout his career including winning three ATP singles titles. He attained his career-high ranking of World No. 15 in December 2005. Early in his career, Ginepri attended Joseph Wheeler High School in Marietta, Georgia, graduating in 2001. During his junior career, he notably reached the boys’ singles runner-up at the 2000 US Open, losing to Andy Roddick in an all-American final. Additionally, he captured the Boys’ 18s Easter Bowl singles title and contributed to the U.S. team’s victory in the ITF Sunshine Cup in 2000.

His professional career was marked by several notable achievements. In 2005, Ginepri made it to his first ATP Masters Series semifinal in Cincinnati, beating several highly ranked players. This performance preceded his run to the semifinals of the 2005 US Open, where he delivered three consecutive five-set victories against Tommy Haas, Richard Gasquet, and Guillermo Coria before losing to Andre Agassi. This made him the first player in the open era to play four consecutive five-set matches at the US Open. That same year, he reached another ATP Masters Series semifinal at the Madrid Masters and won the inaugural Superset Tennis tournament. Ginepri’s success in 2005 culminated in him finishing the year ranked World No. 15.

Throughout his career, Ginepri participated in numerous Grand Slam tournaments and ATP events. He reached the fourth round of the Australian Open in 2004, the French Open in 2008 and 2010, and Wimbledon in 2004. He also represented the United States in the Davis Cup, holding a 2-0 record in competition, and made his Olympic debut at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. After a biking accident in 2010 that required arm surgery, Ginepri returned to the tour in 2011, continuing to compete in various events before officially retiring in 2015. Post-retirement, he has remained involved in tennis, having served as a coach for Alex Michelsen’s team and as a coach for the U.S. Davis Cup squad.
