About

Robin Douglas Leach was born on August 29, 1941, in London, England. His career in journalism began early; at age 14, he edited his school magazine, The Gayton Times. By 15, he was a general news reporter for the Harrow Observer, and at 18, he joined the Daily Mail as Britain’s youngest “Page One” reporter. In 1963, Leach emigrated to the United States. He continued his work in print journalism, contributing to major publications such as the New York Daily News, People magazine, and Ladies’ Home Journal. In 1967, he launched GO Magazine and later became the show business editor for The Star. These early experiences established his foundation in reporting and entertainment journalism.

Leach transitioned into television, becoming a regular contributor to “AM Los Angeles” with Regis Philbin. His television career expanded to include reporting for CNN’s “People Tonight,” “Entertainment Tonight,” and assisting in the launch of “Good Morning Australia” and the Food Network. His most notable role was as the host of “Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous,” a syndicated television series that aired from 1984 to 1995. The show became a cultural phenomenon of the 1980s, known for its focus on the opulent lives and elaborate possessions of celebrities and wealthy individuals. He also hosted spinoffs such as “Runaway with the Rich and Famous” and ABC’s “Fame, Fortune and Romance.” In 1995, he made a special appearance on the family sitcom “Boy Meets World.”

From 1999, Leach resided in Las Vegas, continuing his journalism career by writing for the Las Vegas Sun, VegasDeluxe.com, and later the Las Vegas Review-Journal until 2016. He appeared in the 2006 documentary “Maxed Out,” offering commentary on credit card culture, and in a 2007 episode of “The Surreal Life: Fame Games.” In late 2017, he participated in the Vice Channel series “Most Expensivest” with 2 Chainz. Leach passed away on August 24, 2018, in Las Vegas, Nevada, at the age of 76, following a stroke. He was married to Judith Desser from 1968 to 1977 and had three sons.
