The groundbreaking Ross Taylor is a former New Zealand international cricketer and captain. He batted primarily at number four and was New Zealand’s leading run scorer in Test and One Day International cricket until he announced his retirement from international cricket at the end of 2021. Taylor played his 100th Test match for New Zealand in February 2020, making him the first ever cricketer to play in 100 matches in all three formats of international cricket.
Taylor was a member of the Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel in the Caribbean Premier League in 2013 and 2014, as well as the St Lucia Zouks in 2015. He returned to the league in 2018, playing for the Jamaica Tallawahs before joining the Guyana Amazon Warriors in the Caribbean Premier League in 2020. During the first Test match against India on February 21, 2020, Taylor became the first player to play 100 matches in each format of the game (T20I, ODI, and Tests), as well as becoming the fourth New Zealand player to play 100 Test macthes after Stephen Fleming, Daniel Vettori, and Brendon McCullum.
Taylor became New Zealand’s most-capped player in international cricket in December 2020, when he played in his 438th match across all three formats, surpassing Daniel Vettori. In December 2021, he announced his retirement from international cricket, with his final Test series coming against Bangladesh, while his final ODIs were against the Netherlands and Australia. Taylor played his 450th and final international match for New Zealand on April 4, 2022.
