One of the world’s quickest bowlers, Mark Wood is a cricketer from England. His deliveries reach velocities of up to 97 mph, or 156 kph. Wood was a member of England’s World Cup-winning team in 2019.
In the MCCA Knockout Trophy in 2008, Wood made his county cricket debut for Northumberland against Norfolk. From 2008 to 2010, he represented Northumberland in Minor Counties cricket, appearing in three Minor Counties Championship matches and three MCCA Knockout Trophy matches. In the 2011 season, Wood made his first-class debut for Durham against Durham MCCU. He then made his List A debut against Northamptonshire in the 2011 Clydesdale Bank 40. He went on to make a further first-class appearance against Sri Lanka A, and a further List A appearance against Scotland in the Clydesdale Bank 40.
In June 2019, Wood took his 50th ODI wicket against the West Indies. He made his 50th ODI appearance for England in the same month, in the World Cup semi-final against Australia. In the Cricket World Cup Final, Wood, batting at number 11, was run out off the final ball of the game, forcing the game to be decided by a Super Over, in which England triumphed. He returned to Test cricket in the third test of England’s 2019-20 tour of South Africa, taking 3/32 in South Africa’s second innings as England won. Wood was picked for England’s squad for the 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. He was subsequently called up for the 2021–22 Ashes.
