Sweden Ruben Östlund is a filmmaker known for directing and writing satirical black comedy films that have received international acclaim.
The partnership brings together two forces that share a passion for innovation and a dedication to pushing creative boundaries.
Plattform Produktion is one of Sweden's most innovative production houses, founded in 2002 by producer Erik Hemmendorff and director Ruben Östlund.
The cooperation with Ruben Östlund and his fellow producer Erik Hemmendorff at Göteborg based Plattform Produktion, extends back more than 20 years. It is a regular partner.
These companies are producing the film "The Entertainment System Is Down" in partnership with Jupiter Peak.

Ruben Östlund was born on April 13, 1974, in Styrsö, Västra Götalands län, Sweden. Early in his career, he spent winters working at ski resorts in the Alps where he started making ski videos. These videos helped him gain admission to the University of Gothenburg’s film school, from which he graduated in 2001. After his education, Östlund co-founded the production company Plattform Produktion with Erik Hemmendorff. This company has produced his films, allowing him to maintain creative control over his projects.
Östlund’s early feature-length films include “The Guitar Mongoloid” (2004), “Involuntary” (2008), and “Play” (2011). “The Guitar Mongoloid” earned the FIPRESCI Award at the 27th Moscow International Film Festival. His short film “Incident by a Bank” was awarded the Golden Bear for Best Short Film at the 60th Berlin International Film Festival in 2010. These early works established his distinctive style and critical recognition.
A significant turning point in Östlund’s career occurred with “Force Majeure” (2014), which competed in the Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes Film Festival and won the Jury Prize. He achieved further international recognition with “The Square” (2017), which won the Palme d’Or at Cannes. He continued this success with “Triangle of Sadness” (2022), earning him a second Palme d’Or, making him one of the few directors to receive this award twice. “Triangle of Sadness” also received Academy Award nominations for Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay in 2023. In 2020, Östlund was awarded the King’s medal in gold for his contributions to Swedish film, and he served as the Jury President for the 2023 Cannes Film Festival.
