Rune Glifberg

Rune Glifberg has established a prominent career in professional skateboarding, transitioning from a competitor to a skatepark designer and successful entrepreneur. After competing in his first professional contest in France in 1990, Rune Glifberg officially turned professional in 1992, embarking on a distinguished career in vert skateboarding. In 1995, he relocated to Costa Mesa, California, to further his professional pursuits. Throughout his competitive history, Glifberg became known as ‘The Danish Destroyer’ and stands as one of only three skateboarders to have competed in every X Games event since its inception, accumulating a remarkable total of 12 X Games medals.

His consistent performance and longevity in the sport have solidified his status as an icon in professional skateboarding. Beyond his competitive achievements, Glifberg has significantly contributed to the skateboarding industry through various entrepreneurial ventures. He became a part-owner of Pipeline Distribution, a key player in the distribution sector. He also founded RunEvent, a Copenhagen-based event company dedicated to organizing notable skateboarding competitions and celebrations.

These endeavors highlight his commitment to fostering the growth and accessibility of skateboarding globally, moving beyond competitive performance to direct industry development. Glifberg’s career reached another significant milestone in 2020 when he represented Denmark in the men’s park event at the Summer Olympics in Tokyo. At 46 years old, he made history as the oldest skateboarder to compete in the Olympic Games and the first male skateboarder to participate in an Olympic park event, underscoring his enduring relevance and influence in the sport. His extensive competitive history includes numerous top finishes and victories in elite events such as the X Games, Vans Park Series, and various national championships, demonstrating a sustained level of high performance across several decades.
