Ryan Chiaverini was born on October 12, 1977, in Corona, California. He attended the University of Colorado Boulder, where he majored in Broadcast/Journalism and played strong safety for the Buffaloes football team as a walk-on, eventually earning a full athletic scholarship. His passion for sports is rooted in his family, as his father was a hockey player, and his uncle was a professional boxer. His twin brother also played professional football in the NFL. Chiaverini’s early career began as a weekend sports anchor at KFBB in Great Falls, Montana, and then at KTVQ in Billings. In 2002, he moved to KUSA in Denver, Colorado, where he worked as a sports reporter, covering the Denver Broncos for four seasons and serving as a fill-in host for shows like the ‘Mike Shanahan Show’ and ‘John Elway’s Crush Zone’.
In March 2006, Chiaverini joined ABC 7 Chicago as a sports reporter and fill-in anchor. He was quickly promoted to sports anchor on ABC 7’s top-rated weekend newscasts and hosted the station’s pre-game coverage for the Chicago Bears, ‘THE CHICAGO HUDDLE’. From 2011 to 2021, Ryan co-hosted ‘Windy City Live’, a popular entertainment show for which he was selected from hundreds of candidates. He is credited with naming the show. During his time on ‘Windy City Live’, he interviewed notable figures such as Will Ferrell, Jimmy Kimmel, Mike Tyson, Michael Jordan, and The Rock. In September 2021, ‘Windy City Live’ transitioned to a weekly program called ‘Windy City Weekend’.
In 2022, Chiaverini expanded his role at ABC 7 as a fill-in weekday sports anchor. In November 2023, he was named the lead sports anchor on ABC 7’s top-rated newscasts at 5, 6, and 10 p.m. He has developed signature segments, including the ‘2-Minute Warning’ and ‘Bear-ly Accurate Predictions’. Chiaverini is also an Emmy Award-winning host, receiving the Chicago/Midwest regional Emmy Award for Program Host/Moderator in 2013 and 2017. He also shared in Emmy wins for Interview/Discussion Programming in 2013 for a ‘Windy City Live’ special on violence and for Special Event Coverage for ‘Countdown Chicago’ from 2020 to 2023. Beyond television, he has taken on small acting roles in productions such as Showtime’s ‘Shameless’ and ABC’s ‘General Hospital’ and played a lawyer in the 2021 Lifetime TV movie ‘Switched Before Birth’. He is also known for his charitable work, releasing songs to benefit organizations like the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and cancer research.
