Born on October 19, 1994, in Boca Raton, Florida, Ryan Fitzgerald developed his ice hockey skills through various youth and high school programs. He played for Malden Catholic High School, where he showcased significant talent, achieving 47 points in 24 games during the 2009-10 season and an impressive 72 points in 24 games in the 2010-11 season. His early career also included time with the Valley Jr. Warriors in the Eastern Junior Hockey League, where he recorded 30 points in 26 games in 2012-13. Fitzgerald’s performance earned him recognition, including being named the 2012 MVP of the CCM/USA Hockey All-American Prospects Game.
Fitzgerald continued his career at Boston College, joining the Eagles for the 2013-14 season. As a freshman, he quickly made an impact, tallying 29 points in 40 games and earning Hockey East Rookie of the Month honors in November. His collegiate career saw steady progression, culminating in a standout junior year (2015-16) where he led the team with 24 goals and 47 total points in 40 games. That same year, he was named to the Hockey East First All-Star Team and the NCAA East Second All-American Team. He concluded his NCAA tenure in 2016-17 as an assistant captain, totaling 132 points throughout his four years.
Transitioning to professional hockey, Fitzgerald signed an entry-level contract with the Boston Bruins in March 2017, subsequently joining their AHL affiliate, the Providence Bruins. He spent four seasons with the Providence Bruins, consistently contributing offensively with 21 goals in 65 games during the 2017-18 season and later earning an AHL All-Star Game selection in 2019. In 2021, he signed a contract with the Philadelphia Flyers organization, playing for the Lehigh Valley Phantoms where he recorded 21 points in 28 games. Most recently, Fitzgerald signed with the Utica Comets in 2023, continuing his professional career in the AHL.
