David Carr

David Duke Carr, born on July 21, 1979, in Bakersfield, California, developed his football talents early, attending Valley Oak Elementary School and Kastner Intermediate School in Fresno before moving to Stockdale High School in Bakersfield. His collegiate career at Fresno State saw him become the starting quarterback for the 2000 and 2001 seasons. During his senior year in 2001, Carr led the Bulldogs to an 11-3 record, securing victories against notable teams like Colorado, Oregon State, and Wisconsin. His performance earned him the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award and the Sammy Baugh Trophy, culminating in a fifth-place finish for the 2001 Heisman Trophy. His jersey number 8 was later retired by Fresno State in honor of his contributions.

Carr was selected as the first overall pick in the 2002 NFL Draft by the Houston Texans, becoming the franchise’s inaugural draft selection. He spent five seasons as the Texans’ starting quarterback from 2002 to 2006. In his rookie year, he set an NFL record for the most times sacked in a single season, with 76. Over his tenure with the Texans, he passed for 13,391 yards and 59 touchdowns. Following his time in Houston, Carr played for the Carolina Panthers (2007), New York Giants (2008-2009, 2011-2012), and San Francisco 49ers (2010), serving primarily as a backup quarterback. A significant career achievement was winning Super Bowl XLVI with the New York Giants in 2011.

After retiring from professional play, Carr transitioned into coaching and media roles. In 2015, he became the offensive coordinator at Bakersfield Christian High School. He also joined the NFL Network as an analyst, contributing his insights to various programs, including “Total Access,” leveraging his decade of experience in the National Football League. His post-playing career demonstrates a continuing commitment to the sport through analysis and coaching, while also engaging in brand partnerships related to health and wellness.
